Counselling can feel like a big step into the unknown and it is normal if you are feeling a little anxious about it. This first session is to help out with the process of taking the first step, by bringing clarity about where you are in your life at the moment, about how I work and what is expected of each other.
Initially we would have a small exchange via email or phone, to check availability and for us to get a feel for whether I am the right counsellor for you and your present concern.
We will then schedule an initial consultation session (without obligation), ideally in person. This would give you an opportunity to see whether I am someone you’d feel comfortable opening up to – counselling and psychotherapy enables work to be done at a deep reflective level, so it is important that we both feel comfortable working with each other.
During the first session, we will take a look at your present difficulty and together we can start figuring out what you might needed in order to move forward.
If we decided to go ahead with further sessions, then contractual terms such as length of contract (short term or open ended), time and location of sessions, fees and other relevant details will be discussed and agreed upon.
If I feel that I am not the right counsellor for your current difficulty, I will let you know and support you in exploring other options.
Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any initial questions or concerns.
